Sun hours
Some cities get a lot more sun than others. Perth averages 5.3 peak sun hours a day, Melbourne 4.1. That difference flows straight into what a system produces and how fast it pays for itself.
State rebates
Beyond the federal rebate, some states add their own: the Solar Homes program in Victoria, the Sustainable Household Scheme in the ACT and virtual power plant incentives in South Australia. Each city page shows the line that applies.
Electricity prices
Power prices vary a lot between states. South Australia has the highest residential rates, at 35 to 45c/kWh, so every kWh of solar you use saves more there.
