How GloBird ZEROHERO works

GloBird connects to your battery via its API. Every day between 11am and 2pm, GloBird charges your battery from the grid at no cost to you (they absorb this against low midday wholesale prices when solar generation floods the market). When a VPP event is triggered, your battery exports to the grid and you receive 55c/kWh in bill credits on top of your standard FiT rate. The two-layer payment structure means your solar exports still earn the standard FiT, while your battery exports during grid events earn the premium 55c/kWh rate.

Payment structure

The 55c/kWh VPP event rate applies when GloBird dispatches your battery during grid stress periods. This is paid as a bill credit in addition to whatever feed-in tariff your plan includes. The free daily charging window (11am to 2pm) reduces your import costs further. Rates are structured per distributor zone across VIC, NSW, SA, and QLD. GloBird provides Energy Fact Sheets for each zone with the precise rate applicable to your address.

At 55c/kWh with 10 to 20 events per year, a 10kWh battery exporting ~8kWh per event earns $44 to $88 from VPP events alone. Add the free daily charging benefit (saving ~$50 to $120/year on import costs) and standard FiT income, and total annual value sits at $200 to $500 depending on location and household profile. SA and VIC households with 20+ events per year trend toward the higher end. The 55c/kWh rate makes ZEROHERO competitive with Diamond Energy WATTBANK on a per-event basis.

How to sign up

Switch to GloBird Energy as your electricity retailer. Enrol in the ZEROHERO plan through the GloBird website. Your battery is connected remotely once the retailer transfer is complete (2 to 4 weeks). No additional hardware is required for compatible batteries.
