How AGL Virtual Power Plant works
Your battery is enrolled in AGL's demand response pool. When wholesale electricity prices spike or the grid needs support, AGL signals your battery to discharge. Events are managed automatically via AGL's cloud platform connected to your battery's API. You set a minimum reserve so essential backup power is always available.
Payment structure
AGL offers an upfront joining bonus of $100–$250 depending on your battery size and state. Ongoing VPP event exports earn 15–18c/kWh, applied as credits on your AGL bill. The upfront bonus is paid as a bill credit within the first billing cycle after enrollment. Best rates require a 24 month commitment.

Expect $250–$500 per year from VPP exports, plus the one-off upfront bonus. The 24 month commitment means you'll earn at least $500–$1,000+ over the contract period when factoring in the joining bonus. SA and VIC locations tend to see more frequent events.
