NSW battery rebate FAQ

What is the solar battery rebate in NSW for 2026?

NSW homeowners can access the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate (approximately $2,520 for a 10kWh battery) plus up to $1,500 through the PDRS VPP incentive. That is a total of $4,500+ off your battery installation.

Does NSW have its own battery rebate program?

NSW does not have a standalone state battery rebate like some other states. However, the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) provides VPP incentives worth up to $1,500 when you connect your battery to an approved Virtual Power Plant. This stacks on top of the federal rebate.

How do I get the PDRS VPP incentive in NSW?

When you install a battery through a SAA-accredited installer, they can help you enrol in an approved VPP program. The VPP provider pays you for allowing them to draw on your battery during peak demand periods. The PDRS certificates provide the upfront discount of up to $1,500.

Can I get the federal battery rebate in NSW without a VPP?

Yes. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate of approximately $2,520 (for 10kWh) is available to all eligible NSW homeowners regardless of VPP participation. The VPP incentive is an additional bonus, not a requirement.

When does the battery rebate change next?

The tiered structure took effect on 1 May 2026. The first 14kWh receives 100% of the STC factor (currently 6.8 STCs/kWh, around $252/kWh), 14 to 28 kWh receives 60%, and 28 to 50 kWh receives 15%. The STC factor steps down again on 1 January 2027 and every six months after that until the program closes in 2030, so installing sooner locks in a larger discount.
