Solar Battery Northern Territory 2026
The Northern Territory gets exceptional solar output (Darwin is STC Zone 2 and Alice Springs Zone 1), which gives a battery plenty to store over its life. The NT Home and Business Battery Scheme ($400/kWh, up to $12,000) has reached capacity, but the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate (about $2,584 on a 10kWh battery) is still available. If the NT scheme reopens, the Territory would have the most generous combined incentives in Australia.

Battery storage in NT
Strong sun and long distances make a battery especially useful in the Northern Territory. The NT Home and Business Battery Scheme has reached capacity, but the federal rebate still takes a good share off the price. Darwin's STC Zone 2 rating means more certificates per kilowatt of solar than in Zones 3 and 4, with strong generation all year.

Launched in December 2024 with $6M of funding, it was the most generous state battery rebate in Australia at $400 per kWh. The funding has been fully allocated and the scheme is at capacity.

Up to $7,500/dwelling
An NT program supporting solar on multi-dwelling properties. Unit complexes and apartments can apply, which takes solar beyond standalone homes.

Darwin STC Zone 2
Darwin is STC Zone 2 and Alice Springs Zone 1, so solar in Darwin and Alice Springs earns more STCs per kilowatt than in Zones 3 and 4, which means higher federal solar rebates and faster payback. Average daily generation is 4.7 to 5.2 kWh per kW installed.
