Households in Western Australia can currently stack two federal programs: the solar STC rebate, which comes off your quote up front, and the Cheaper Home Batteries discount on the battery. Here is what that is worth on one specific system, a 13.3kW single-phase solar array with a 14kWh battery, which is the largest setup a normal single-phase home can install. Other WA incentives, and who actually qualifies

Western Australia still pays a state battery rebate on top of the federal discount. The Synergy rate shown above covers Perth and the South West grid, and it is paid per kWh up to 10kWh usable, so it does not grow with a larger battery.
The federal battery rebate steps down next on 1 January 2027, and the STC deeming period shortens every January until the program ends in 2030, so the same system attracts a little less rebate each year you wait. Why solar stacks up in Perth
Perth is one of the sunniest capitals in Australia, with eight-plus peak sun hours a day in summer, so a system here simply produces more than the same panels would in Sydney or Melbourne. What the WA battery rebate actually requires
The $1,300 is real, and most Perth households can get it, but only if the job is set up correctly from the start. Four conditions decide it:
- Synergy customers only, which is Perth and the South West Interconnected System
- Virtual Power Plant participation is mandatory
- The battery must be on the scheme’s supported-solutions list
- The install must be done by a vendor in the approved vendor directory
- Paid at $130 per kWh and capped at 10kWh usable, so it does not scale with a larger battery
That last one catches people out. The rebate is paid per kWh and stops at 10kWh usable, so it does not scale with battery size: a 14kWh battery attracts the same $1,300 as a 10kWh one. Size your battery for your evening usage, not for the rebate.
Separate to the rebate: the interest-free loan
Synergy customers can also apply for an interest-free loan of up to $10,000. We keep it outside the rebate figures on this page on purpose, because it is not a discount. It is borrowed money you repay in full, it involves a credit check, and there is a household income cap.
Regional WA only: the Horizon Power rate
You may see a $3,800 figure quoted for the WA battery rebate. That is the Horizon Power rate, and Horizon Power serves regional and remote Western Australia. Every suburb this page covers, from Two Rocks to Mandurah, is on the Synergy network, so the rate that applies to you is $1,300. WA runs its own grid, and its own rules
Perth is not connected to the eastern states grid. The city runs on the South West Interconnected System, with Western Power owning the wires and Synergy selling the electricity, and the connection rules are WA's own. Since May 2026, new systems connect under one of two pathways: a future-ready setup with a communications-capable inverter that keeps full feed-in access and VPP eligibility, or a standard connection with exports capped at 1.5kW.
That choice is not just about exports. VPP participation is a condition of the state battery rebate, so a standard connection can cost you $1,300 as well as your feed-in credits. Getting the pathway right, and lodging the Western Power paperwork correctly, is the single biggest reason to use an installer who actually works in Perth. DEBS pays for timing, not volume
WA's feed-in scheme, the Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme, pays by time of day: around 10 cents per kilowatt-hour for exports between 3pm and 9pm, but only a couple of cents through the middle of the day, exactly when your panels produce the most. Exporting at lunchtime earns next to nothing.

What changed with WA solar connection rules in May 2026?
Since 1 May 2026, new and upgraded systems on the Western Power network connect under one of two pathways. Choose the future-ready pathway, with a communications-capable inverter and remote management, and you keep full access to the DEBS feed-in scheme and stay eligible for VPPs, which matters because VPP participation is a condition of the state battery rebate. Choose the standard pathway and your exports are capped at 1.5kW. Existing systems are not affected.
